Gifford Garden Notes
The information center at the Gifford Garden
by Diane Fagergren
I am pleased to announce the opening of our new information center located in the Gifford Garden. Due to a generous gift from the Dann Foundation, we were able to transform the existing garden house into a wonderful resource for horticultural information.
The illuminated weatherproof cases mounted along the far wall now give us the capability of sharing pertinent gardening practices with anyone who comes to stroll through the garden. A brief history, an explanation of the signage used, and a pictorial of perennials being featured this month can also be found in the information center.
Facts pertaining to butterflies and a wonderful handout for children are exhibited under 'Garden Communities'. Many of these displays will change periodically and allow us to cover a multitude of subjects. Pests and diseases, native plants and their use within the landscape, how to attract hummingbirds into your garden, fertilizing, water gardening, pruning and rose care are just a few of the upcoming topics of discussion. I invite you all to come and view this latest addition to the Gifford Garden.
