Education Mission
Education efforts at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies address three goals:
- To develop an understanding of how people learn about the processes of science, and about ecological concepts
- To enhance the general understanding of ecology by students, policy makers, and the general public
- To train a new generation of ecologists capable of addressing and solving complex environmental problems important to human societies.
The new Ecosystem Literacy Initiative (ELI) is an Institute-wide commitment to bringing current ecosystem thinking to many audiences. Our vision is a citizenry capable of engaging in informed dialogue and action regarding ecosystems. ELI activities in the Cary Institute Education Program are complemented by outreach, education, and training efforts of the entire staff.
