Ecology Day Camps

Please note: Ecology Camp is filled for the summer of 2008.
Please keep us in mind for next year. Thanks so much!

Campers explore the hills, valleys, ponds, and streams of our 2,000 acre campus, conduct experiments, and participate in nature arts, crafts, and games. Camp gives students a unique opportunity to participate in ecology investigations and discuss their findings with our scientists. All camp leaders are trained and experienced ecology educators.

Each year the camp has a different theme, which allows campers to attend camp for several years in a row. Recent camp themes have included watersheds (1999), soil (2000), change in ecosystems over time (2001), the process of doing science (2002), the ecology of wetlands (2003), exploring energy in ecosystems (2004), the water cycle (2005), and ecosystem engineers (2006) and the little creatures that run the world (2007).

This year's theme is Eco-Connections. Campers will learn how organisms are connected to one another and their environment, while also considering human connections to the environment.

The Junior Counselor Program provides the opportunity for students entering grades 8 - 12 to assist educators during each ecology day camp session. The application deadline has already passed for the upcoming summer. Please check back next February if would like to apply for Summer 2009.

Do you have an older child interested in attending Ecology Camp for High School students? We would like to offer 1-2 weeks of Ecology Camp for older students who would enjoy advanced ecology projects and inquiry style science. We will offer this camp only if we have a minimum of 10 interested students. If you are interested, please contact Kim Notin at (845) 677-7600 ext303.

If you need more information on Ecology Camp, please call (845) 677-7600 ext. 333 or e-mail Kim Notin.
