Aldo Leopold Society Membership

"The land ethic simply enlarges the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land." - Aldo Leopold

The Aldo Leopold Society provides the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies an outlet to educate the public not only about the work of a great ecologist and conservationist, Aldo Leopold, but also about the clear connection between the environment and human welfare.

The Aldo Leopold Society membership provides you with unique opportunities to not only interact with our scientists and educators but contribute to the Institute's success and, simultaneously to be an integral part of it.

Your annual financial contributions will support excellent research and education projects not otherwise possible. In return, you will be invited to programs twice yearly where you will join other members of The Aldo Leopold Society to learn about research discoveries and advances in education before the information is available to the general public or, in many cases, before the findings are published in scientific journals.

The Institute has created six levels of annual giving: Founders Circle at $25,000; Director at $10,000; Leader at $5,000; Benefactor at $2,500; Patron at $1,000; Ambassador at $750; and Member at $500. In addition to use of members' library, annual donations of $500 or more will:

  • Qualify for individual/family membership in The Aldo Leopold Society.
  • Receive recognition of membership and EcoFocus the Cary Institute Newsletter.
  • Receive invitations to special events and programs throughout your membership year. These events include our Aldo Leopold Society Luncheon, which features an insiders update from Cary Institute President Dr. William H. Schlesinger, and our Autumn Glory Walk, a scientist-guided hike through numerous ecological points of interest within our grounds, as well as other informative and lively events.
  • Members at the Benefactor level qualify for a landscape consultation with Brad Roeller, Manager, Grounds.
  • Members at the Leader level are invited to an autumn tour of the Catskills with Dr. Kathleen Weathers/Dr. Gary Lovett.
  • Members at the Director level qualify for a catered weekend for two at the Tea House.
  • Members at the Founder's Circle level are invited to a tour of the Hudson River with our Scientists.

At the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, we recognize the importance of this delicate balance between humankind and nature. We are dedicated to long-term ecological research and education so that this harmony might be reached and sustained.
