Manipulations of entire ecosystems (watersheds and streams) within the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in the White Mountains of New Hampshire are used to evaluate complex questions. Examples of these experimental manipulations include clear cutting of forests, calcium additions to a watershed and stream ecosystem, and road construction.
